elevator pitch script 07/30/18

Hi my name is Emily Abreu and I am a current CARE student at Florida State University. If you have ever passed by Thagard on campus, I would like you to know that this is my home. The center of academic retention and enhancement is located here and over the course of this summer semester I have grown to love this community. CARE is a department on campus that provides services to first generation college students who are low income and are traditionally underrepresented in higher education. This department oversees various programs on campus that offer different opportunities such as workshops, guidance counselors, financial aid advisors, tutors and more. This department strives in producing not only successful students but leaders. In my project I will specifically be talking about the steps to becoming a CARE Ambassador, one of the most desired leadership positions within CARE. I will do this through a vision board, a video that consists of a compilation of interviews, and an infographic on statistics of CARE’s success with academic retention rates. This is a community that you would want to be a part of because it is a resource. Whether you are a first generation student or not, CARE is open to helping anyone who walks into the doors of Thagard building because its overall mission is to enhance the capabilities of each student at FSU. CARE for me is a community of people who are like me, that come from difficult backgrounds and have faced similar obstacles. This department has helped me smoothly integrate into this university and has made me feel at home where I have the liberty to discover myself and my passions. It is your choice of whether or not you take advantage of this opportunity. You too can feel at home and have a family here at CARE.
